Detailed Itinerary

Your Gangtok and Darjeeling adventure begins the moment you step off the train or plane at NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport. Our representative will be right there waiting to greet you with a warm and friendly welcome before taking charge of everything from that point on. Sit back and enjoy the scenic four hour drive to Gangtok as the road climbs steadily through lush green forests and winding mountain roads, offering little glimpses of the beautiful world that awaits you over the coming days. On arrival check into your hotel, freshen up, and allow yourself some time to rest and settle in after the journey. The remainder of the day is completely yours to enjoy at your own pace. As the evening comes in make your way to MG Marg, the lively and beloved main street of Gangtok. This cheerful and vibrant stretch is the perfect place to get your first real feel for the city. Stroll at a leisurely pace, browse through the local shops, pick up a few souvenirs, grab a warm cup of tea, and soak in the energy and warmth of Gangtok as it comes alive in the evening light. Return to your hotel when you are ready and settle in for a peaceful and comfortable overnight stay.
After a satisfying breakfast, get ready to spend the day exploring Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim sitting at an elevation of 1650 metres and serving as the main gateway into the state. Your first stop is Bakthang Waterfall, a wide and impressive cascade that is easily one of the most photogenic spots in the city. From there head to Tashi Viewpoint where the far reaching views of Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, are absolutely stunning and on clear mornings the sunrise over the peaks is something truly special. Next visit Ganesh Tok, a charming hilltop Hindu temple that offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding landscape and a peaceful atmosphere that is hard to leave behind. Enchey Monastery comes next, a sacred site believed to be watched over by the protective deities Khangchendzonga and Yabdean, carrying a calm and spiritual energy throughout. Round off the morning with a cable car ride on the Ropeway for a breathtaking bird's eye view of the city and the hills stretching out below. The remaining attractions covered during the day include the Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom, Do Drul Chorten Stupa, Institute of Tibetology, Flower Show, and the beautiful Banjhakri Falls. After a wonderful day of sightseeing drive back to the hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.
Today is going to be a day you will not forget in a hurry. Head out early at around 8 am toward Tsomgo Lake, a stunning high altitude lake sitting at 3750 metres and about a three hour drive from Gangtok. The lake is genuinely beautiful with snow covered peaks and wild flowers surrounding it on all sides, and it holds deep religious importance for both Hindus and Buddhists. In winter the whole lake freezes over while in spring colourful flowers bloom around its shores and bring it back to life. After spending time at the lake drive over to Baba Harbhajan Mandir, a heartfelt shrine dedicated to the brave Indian soldier Baba Harbhajan Singh who laid down his life while serving his nation with complete dedication. After the excursion head back to the hotel in Gangtok and spend the rest of the day however you please. Overnight stay at the hotel. Note: Nathula Pass can also be visited on the same day at an additional cost. It is one of the highest motorable passes in the world and a historic trading route that once connected Tibet and India, making it a fascinating stop for history and adventure lovers alike.
After a good breakfast, pack your bags and get ready to head toward Darjeeling, one of the most beloved hill stations in the entire country. Once you arrive our representative will be right there to welcome you and help you settle into your hotel without any hassle. Spend the night comfortably at the hotel and let the cool mountain air of the Queen of Hills ease you into a peaceful rest.
Today is going to be one of those days that stays with you for a very long time. Set your alarm for around 4 in the morning because the day begins with a drive up to Tiger Hill, the highest point in Darjeeling at 2042 metres. The reason for the early start becomes clear the moment you arrive and watch the sunrise slowly paint the snow covered peaks of Kangchenjunga in shades of gold and amber. It is one of the most breathtaking natural spectacles you will ever witness and well worth every minute of lost sleep. On the way back stop at Batasia Loop, a scenic spiral railway track set in a wonderfully picturesque location, and then visit Ghoom Monastery, one of the oldest and most revered monasteries in the region. Grab a warm and satisfying breakfast before continuing to the Japanese Temple, a beautifully crafted Buddhist pilgrimage site known for its elegant and traditional Japanese architecture that creates a wonderfully calm and meditative atmosphere. The rest of the day takes you through more of Darjeeling's finest attractions including Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, which is closed on Thursdays, the legendary Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tenzing Rock, the serene Peace Pagoda, and an outer view of the beautiful Chitrey Tea Garden. Round off the evening with a relaxed and enjoyable stroll along MG Road, the lively main street of Darjeeling where the town truly comes alive after dark.
The last day of this wonderful journey has arrived. After a relaxed breakfast check out of the hotel and get ready to head toward NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport for the three hour drive back through the hills. As the mountains slowly fade behind you take a moment to think back on everything this trip brought your way. The golden sunrise over Kangchenjunga, the sacred lakes, the ancient monasteries, the laughter, the warmth, and all the little moments in between that made this journey truly special. It has been a pleasure travelling with you and we hope to see you again very soon on your next great adventure.

Pro Tips

Travel Tips

1

Start early each day. Tiger Hill sunrise is around 4 AM. Plan all sightseeing by 7 AM to avoid afternoon fog which rolls in heavily post-noon.

2

Carry warm layers even in summer. Sikkim temperatures drop sharply after sunset. A light fleece jacket is essential even during May and June.

3

Keep Inner Line Permit ready. Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass require permits - we arrange them, but carry two passport-size photos with you.

4

Carry cash. ATMs are limited beyond Gangtok. Withdraw sufficient cash before your Tsomgo Lake excursion day.

5

Respect monastery rules. Remove footwear, speak softly, and photography is not allowed inside the prayer halls of Enchey and Ghoom monasteries.

Best Time

Dec - Feb

Winter - Tsomgo Lake freezes beautifully but roads can be icy and very cold.
